Meditation: Quieting the Mind to Hear God

Meditation is the second key to wisdom, complementing prayer by creating space for God’s voice. In our hectic world, our minds are often cluttered with worries, plans, and distractions. Biblical meditation quiets this noise, allowing you to focus on God’s truth. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10, KJV). This stillness is not about emptying your mind but filling it with God’s Word, letting His wisdom sink deep into your soul.

Choose a scripture to meditate on daily, one that speaks to your current desires or challenges. For instance, if you’re seeking wisdom about a financial goal, meditate on Proverbs 10:22: “The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it” (KJV). Sit in a quiet space, read the verse aloud, and reflect on its meaning. Ask yourself: How does this apply to my desire? What is God teaching me? Visualize your desire unfolding in alignment with this truth—perhaps seeing yourself managing finances with integrity and generosity.

Meditation also helps you discern God’s voice from your own. When I faced a decision about relocating for a job, I meditated on Psalm 32:8: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye” (KJV). As I reflected, God impressed upon me a sense of peace about staying put, revealing that my true calling was in my current community. This practice of meditative reflection will sharpen your ability to hear God’s guidance, making wisdom your constant companion.
